Cats say "I love you" with their eyes by doing a slow blink — slowly closing and opening their eyelids while looking at you. This is called the "cat kiss" and it means *I trust you, I feel safe with you, I love you*. In the wild, closing your eyes near another animal means surrendering control — so when your cat does it to you, it's the deepest sign of trust a cat can give.
Watch your cat from across the room. If it:
Looks directly at you
Slowly closes its eyes
Opens them slowly again
Looks relaxed (not stiff)

Get on its level. Sit on the floor.

Slowly close your eyes for 1–2 seconds.
Open them slowly while looking slightly past the cat, not directly at it.
Repeat if your cat blinks back.
