A Brief History of the Scottish Fold

The Scottish Fold cat was first documented in 1961 in Scotland, when a farmer discovered a white barn cat named Susie with folded ears. Her kittens inherited the same trait, and the breed was carefully developed and introduced worldwide.

Interestingly, folded-ear cats had been mentioned earlier—in 1796, an English sailor brought home a folded-ear cat from China. However, it was Susie's bloodline that led to the breed's international recognition by the late 1970s.

Osteochondrodysplasia (OCD)

A cartilage/bone development issue linked to the fold gene. Ethical breeders only cross Folds with Straights to minimize risk. Regular vet monitoring recommended.

Singapore Cat Licensing (2024–2026)

Under the new HDB cat policy (effective 1 September 2024), all cats in HDB flats must be licensed by August 31, 2026. The annual fee is $14 per cat, and you can keep up to 2 cats per HDB flat. All Designer Cats kittens come pre-microchipped, making the licensing process seamless.
