A Glimpse into Sphynx Cat History

While records of hairless cats date back centuries, including to the Aztecs, the modern Sphynx breed began in 1975 when naturally hairless kittens were discovered in Minnesota and Ontario.

Through careful and ethical breeding programs, the Sphynx cat we know today was developed – a striking yet loving companion celebrated around the world.

Fun Fact: Sphynxes aren't completely bald – their skin has a soft peach-fuzz texture that feels like suede!

At Designer Cats Singapore, all our Sphynx parent cats undergo comprehensive health screening. We are committed to breeding healthy, genetically sound kittens.

HCM Screening

Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy is a concern in Sphynx cats. All parent cats are echocardiogram-screened annually.

Skin Health

Sphynx cats require regular bathing (weekly) to remove skin oils. We provide full care guidance for new owners.

FIV/FELV Testing

Every kitten is tested for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus and Feline Leukemia Virus before adoption.

Full Vaccination

Complete vaccination schedule, deworming, and microchipping included with every kitten.

🇸🇬 Owning a Sphynx Cat in Singapore

Sphynx cats are well-suited for Singapore's indoor living environment. Their affectionate, energetic, intelligent, social nature makes them excellent companions for HDB flats, condominiums, and apartments.

Singapore Cat Licensing (2024–2026)

Under the new HDB cat policy (effective 1 September 2024), all cats in HDB flats must be licensed by August 31, 2026. The annual fee is $14 per cat, and you can keep up to 2 cats per HDB flat. All Designer Cats kittens come pre-microchipped, making the licensing process seamless.

Climate Considerations

Sphynx cats actually do well in Singapore's warm climate! Unlike in cold countries where they need sweaters, Singapore's warmth is comfortable for hairless cats. Keep air conditioning moderate (24-26°C) and provide warm blankets for cooler nights. Their lack of fur means less allergen issues, but they need weekly baths to manage skin oils.
